BENEFITS OF MASSAGE

Massage is among the oldest of the healing arts and has become a widely accepted element of standard medical treatments for a variety of ailments.

Massage:

  • induces deep relaxation and stress reduction;
  • relieves muscle tension, stiffness, and tension-related headaches;
  • increases nutrition and blood circulation thoughout the body;
  • promotes the healing of injured tissue and increases range of motion;
  • relaxes muscle spasm and cramping;
  • reduces inflammation in joints;
  • delays muscular atrophy during forced inactivity;
  • stimulates lymphatic flow and elimination of waste products in the tissues;
  • increases mental alertness;
  • satisfies the need for caring, nurturing touch and promotes feelings of well-being;
  • increases awareness of one’s body and health.

SWEDISH MASSAGE

Swedish massage primarily involves the use of five distinct tissue manipulations/strokes to promote the forenamed benefits. The strokes include: effleurage (gliding and contouring); petrissage (kneading, lifting, and/or rolling); friction (compression using long or short strokes); vibration (compression with a steady shaking motion); and tapotement (rhythmic tapping or striking). These techniques typically are enhanced through the application of a nutritive oil such as almond, sunflower, or jojoba.

MYOFACIAL/STRUCTURAL BODYWORK

Myofacial and structural bodywork is a specific system of therapy that focuses on the manipulation of the muscles and fasia of the body. Fasia is the organ of support for the muscular system, holding all muscle, bones, organs, vessels, etc. in relation to all other structures. Fasia that has become tight or bound with adhesions can limit muscular movement and fluid circulation. Myofacial bodywork releases and loosens fasia and is effective on chronic muscular tension, postural stress, trigger points, reduced range of motion, injuries, and repetitive stress patterns.

INJURY REHABILITATION TECHNIQUES

Specific injury rehabilitation techniques are performed to effectively facilitate the rehabilitation of chronically tight or injured muscles. These techniques may include myofacial release, compression, cross-fiber friction, gentle stretches, joint mobilization, herbal salves or compresses, hot or cold packs, and/or ice therapy. Effectively combining and applying these techniques can reduce muscle pain, tension, spasm and cramping, stimulate circulation, increase flexibility and range of motion, promote the elimination of wastes, and assist recovery from fatigue.

ENERGY THERAPY & POLARITY

Energy therapy and Polarity affect the body’s energy field, electromagnetic energy system, and chakras by moving and re-balancing the body’s energies and dispersing energy blocks that may cause emotional distress, fatigue, stress, muscular pain, and/or disease. Energy therapy is effective when received independently or as part of a full body massage.

REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology involves directly stimulating and massaging the reflex points in the hands and feet to relieve pain, induce relaxation, and speed recovery from injury or illness. Reflexology is effective when received independently or as part of a full body massage.

AROMATHERAPY

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils (concentrated essences of various flowers, fruits, herbs, and plants) for therapeutic purposes. Essential oils have the power to calm, cleanse, and heal through awakening and strengthen the body’s own self-healing capabilities. Essential oils can effectively relieve stress, muscle aches, chemical imbalances, and stimulate the body’s immune system and lymphatic flow. Essential oils can be combined with a base oil during a massage, applied in hot or cold compresses, or used in foot baths.
